About This Program

Some of Nevada City's most fascinating history is hidden in the streets we pass every day.

On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Friar Tuck's History Series continues with a special evening led by Terry McAteer, local historian, former Nevada County Superintendent of Schools, former history teacher, and Chair of the Grass Valley Historical Commission.

This History Series event will take guests beyond the table and into the heart of downtown for a guided walking tour of Commercial Street and the surrounding area. With its historic buildings, narrow walkways, old storefronts, and close connection to the town's early commercial life, the street offers a glimpse into the people, businesses, and community life that helped shape Nevada City over generations.

The evening will begin at Friar Tuck's with light appetizers and conversation before guests head out with Terry for the walking tour. As you move through the area, Terry will share stories, historical context, and details that bring downtown Nevada City into sharper focus.

After the tour, guests will return to Friar Tuck's for refreshments and continued conversation.

This is a special History Series event for anyone who loves Nevada City, local history, preserved architecture, old town stories, and the chance to see a familiar place through a more meaningful lens.

Friar Society Members receive 15% off tickets.
