Friar Tucks Partners with Gray Pine Winery, at Friar Tucks

Nevada City Uncorked is a celebration of wine and food with an historic flavor. The town’s Victorian elegance is the perfect backdrop to showcase Uncorked, a sip and stroll, walk-about-town event that includes 17 venues featuring wineries and food purveyors showcasing the agricultural bounty of our northern Sierra Foothills region, and the historic charm of Nevada City.

 

Friar Tucks will be showcasing their culinary talents, offering one of their house specialties, Ahi Poke Wontons: ahi poke served on crispy wontons with tobiko and soy sauce pearls.

 

Gray Pine Winery is quickly establishing itself as the premier, go-to winery in the region for Bordeaux reds. This year they will be showcasing their award-winning wines including the 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, 2013 Bordeaux Style Red, 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon and their featured new release, the 2014 “Pennridge” Bordeaux Style Red Blend.

 

Friar Tucks will anchor the hub of Uncorked at the intersection of Commercial and Pine Streets. Friar Tucks, an enduring Nevada City icon and oldest wine bar in California, serves as the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of great wine and delicious food.

 

Nevada City is a tapestry of quaint, curious and unique spots to explore. Whether it is the view from the balcony of the National Hotel, a seat in the historic Nevada Theatre, or a hidden downtown patio, Nevada City Uncorked offers a timeless view of the single best example of Victorian Gold Rush architecture in California. Other venues include historic spots, inns, restaurants, art galleries, wineries, and retail spots.

 

Once again there is a raffle to win one of four different Nevada City Vacation Packages.

 

Nevada City Uncorked is collaboration between the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce and the Sierra Vintners Association. Tickets are $35 in advance, $45 on the day of the event or $30 for Wine Club Members of participating wineries. Each ticket includes a wine glass, unlimited wine tasting, and five food tickets. Additional food tickets are available for sale.

Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence Awarded for the 14th Year in a Row!

Friar Tuck’s just received an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator for our wine list.  This is the 14th year running that we have won and we couldn’t be more proud!  We offer over 250 different wines from around the world, but with a heavy nod to Californian wines.

We are unique in that our wines by the glass are constantly changing.  At any one time, we offer 10 wines by the glass.  This is a great way to try something new or maybe something outside of your comfort zone.  We love to surprise and impress our guests with new, interesting and hard to find wines.  Every glass of wine should be an experience!  Come on in and find a new favorite.

TataTini Time!

In honor of Breast Cancer awareness month,
we have brought back our famous TattatatiniaTinis.

Throughout the month of October, we are featuring our delicious pink martini.  And for every TataTini we sell in the month of October, we will donate $1 each to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital’s breast cancer programs.  Last year we raise $250.  Let’s see if we can beat that!

So come on it.  Enjoy a delicious pink martini and help a good cause.

40 Years of Music with Friar Tuck’s Restaurant

 

We are celebrating Jonathan Meredith’s 40th year of playing music at Friar Tuck’s Restaurant.  

In 1976, Meredith wandered into a new restaurant in town called Friar Tuck’s Restaurant.  It was a small bar back then but they had live music.  Meredith met Greg Cook, the owner, that night and said, “I want in.”

Meredith joined the team.  Cook’s vision of his bar had always included live music.  The small bar has since grown up around that.  It is now a full bar and restaurant, offering an extensive steak, seafood and fondue menu.  However, you will still find live music there 7 days a week.  Meredith is still a part of that, 40 years and counting.

Meredith was an instant hit when he started in 1976 and soon became an integral part of the restaurant.  He played music, he was a bartender, host and helped the owner with all kinds of odd jobs.  Meredith brought a flair and charm to the restaurant that really helped shape its personality.  Jonathan is the son of Burgess Meredith, a popular actor who starred as the penguin in the Batman TV series and as Mickey, Rocky’s manager in Rocky among other roles.

Nevada City Uncorked, a walk-about- town wine event that takes place on Saturday, August
27, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., includes 19 different venues throughout downtown Nevada City. Each
location will include wine or beer tasting, and food sampling.

19 wineries from Nevada and Placer Counties, as well as one brewery will be offering their
favorite pours. Additionally all the wineries will be featuring their newest releases in celebration of the
upcoming harvest.

This year Friar Tucks will anchor the hub of Uncorked at the intersection of Commercial and

perfect backdrop for an afternoon of great wine and delicious food.

They will be showcasing their culinary talents, offering Crispy Smoked Pork Belly served with
watermelon & sweety-drop peppers over arugula in a cilantro-lime vinaigrette.
Katoa Cellars will be at Friar Tucks, pouring their award winning wines including the 2014
Zinfandel and their eatured new release, their 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon.
